Tom Ridge Throws Down Gauntlet On Rush Limbaugh

with 169 comments

Washington—Having had enough of Limbaugh’s criticism of Colin Powell, Tom Ridge laid down the gauntlet on Rush Limbaugh, evicting him from the Republican Party.  The event took place after the interview on CSPAN’s Washington Journal where Ridge took a strong stance, supporting Colin Powell and blaming Limbaugh and Dick Cheney for having “a mindset,” that doesn’t foster unity.

Rush Limbaugh responded in like kind, saying, “I must have missed something, because I remember that Colin Powell endorsed the Democrat, Barack Obama, at a strategic point in the campaign in 2008.  And then he went out later and said, ‘Americans want more spending, bigger government, and higher taxes,’ before California threw that one in the trash.”

So this morning, Ridge went back on Washington Journal, responding to Limbaugh’s rhetoric.  “I’m so sick of Rush Limbaugh.  He’s the reason we lose elections.  He needs to get the hell out of the Republican Party.  As far as I’m concerned, he isn’t a Republican anymore.  The man’s running.  The man’s hiding.  He’s too scared to face me!”

Ridge continued his rant, threatening Limbaugh.  “Meanwhile, he sits there in his ‘Southern Command Post,’ and destroys the Republican Party!  I’d like to just have three rounds in a boxing ring with that guy so I could shut him up!  I’m caling you out, Limbaugh.  Let’s see if you have a big enough set of marbles to back up your crap!”

    • This just goes to show you how uninformed the Republicans are. The Rep want someone like Rush. He knows whats going on and he is willing to expose what is going on. Ridge is way off base if he thinks his rant is going to help. If Rush ran for President he probably would win.

      • Mr. Ridge would like nothing more than to see real conservitives out of the way. With them gone he might actually have a chance to run again. For what? Who knows. Certainly not in PA. PA is still rolling in debt from his last time in office. Let’s hope Ridge finds occasion to do a PHOTO OP holding hands with Arlen Spector. That as it was for Santorum, will be his first round knock out.

    • Tom Ridge is an idiot!!! Republicans won’t win elections acting like left wing looney Democrats, or supporting them in elections!! If the Republicans want to win another election they had better take a page out of the Reagan playbook… We need a Conservative that will stand up to the left and strongly contrast the Socialist left’s agenda!! Tom Ridge does neither!! Tom, I’ll fight you as well, and you’ll find a whole bunch of people in line right behind me willing to do the same!!!

  23. Rush has been losing elections for Republicans? Since when?
You ran Mc Cain- and he lost big time to Obama- who interestingly enough was supported by Colin Powell. Has it occurred to you that Powell cost the Republicans this last election? Perhaps if he supported the Republican party and McCain, things would have turned out differently.
Why doesn’t Ridge ask for time on Rush’s radio show to have this big showdown, where he “throws Rush out of the party”? I am sure Rush would welcome him.
Know Rush isn’t going on anyone else’s program just to talk to an underling like Ridge.

It dosen’t sound all that Republican to me..(an independent) I think if Ridge wants to call Rush out, then a debate on issues is what we would all like to see. Left Coast

    June 27, 2009 at 9:16 am

  52. Republicans like Ridge are what cost us the election in 08. Republicans need to stick to basic conservatism, and leave the pathetic pandering lies to the Dems. This country has always been proud, and to keep her strong enough to drive back this alarming Socialist agenda, we need our values to be upheld by those that carry the party name. Otherwise, maybe it’s time for a new party. I hear the Libertarian voice singing softly in the wind now, which way the political winds blow will depend on the choices of those in office now. We are all armed and dangerous with our vote.

    Duty Honor Country

    June 27, 2009 at 9:19 am

  53. Here we go again, let’s be more moderate, then the parties slip further left, another election, that same nonsense again, let’s be more moderate, this repeats until there is no sane decision maker left to save us from this downward spiral into left loony hell. Look back, at one time both the Bushes were considered moderates, (dad and son), what more could you want, someone even more moderate? Another republican party shift to even further empower the Democrats. What happened to the Ronald Reagan Republicans?

We have slipped so far into “bazaaro world” that no one knows what’s right and what’s wrong anymore, look at the Democrats, is there one non-crook among them? And Pelosi? She needs psycho analysis and that’s who they look up to, we watched elements of this party destroy the banking industry and cleverly point their crooked fingers at the republicans, and make it stick! Whenever the democrats are even close to having a scandal exposed, they point fingers points directly at the republicans.

You want to save this country from a Roman Empire like collapse? Then let’s get back to our real principles, attack these insane and socialistic programs, give us our choices back and I don’t mean the one’s that includes killing something not democratically correct to mention (DC CORRECTNESS).

So what will it be? Or is it too late? All the choices may have been made for us already, the new administration, with a new approach to their same old ugly ideas, wants to reclassify our lives, reinterpret free speech, and shift the burden of the unwilling class onto the working class.

The Republicans need to rebuild it’s platform, defend “American Values”, demand “Fair Trade” instead of “Free Trade”, demand equal time from the news media, publicize more, stop the apologizing for any and everything and most importantly stop exposing each other’s dirty laundry, weed out the moderate misfits and recreate an atmosphere that will draw a better class of citizen into politics.

Let’s start now, question why the democrats do not want Rush to be heard, why do they focus on a radio talk show host, why are they so afraid of allowing all opinions to be heard, is it they want to be the only America?

TOM RIDGE put your energy into protecting the party, stop caving in to the false believe that the republicans are losing because of it’s values and realize it was a PR war that we lost, the democrats keep picking and pointing, this is a daily barrage of attacks on anyone with the R before their name, replaying old accusations over and over again, replacing facts with propaganda in a style that would have made Hitler blush, and as far as Colin Powell goes, his political party either does not exist or he is a democrat straddling on the republican side of the fence, push him over, this man’s claims to fame are more image related than actual individual achievement. Good bye Colin, and don’t forget to take those “word wisdoms” and clever sayings you memorized from you desk blotter, brush up, you may need to spiel them again in four years.

  58. Tom Ridge, you are a cruel joke.
You have never held an office, unless it was handed to you, by men better than yourself.

Try running for office, on your own, see if you can make dog catcher somewhere …

    You are a Republican loser.
You are something like 7-Up (remember the commercial? “Never had it, never will”).

You are a JOKE, your DHS was a joke.
It is STILL a joke under Janet Napolitano, who managed to turn the city of Phoenix into the kidnapping capital of the US! And was made head of DHS, as her reward for the outstanding performance!!!

Go away, find a pasture somewhere …

And I am a American conservative, and NOT a Limbaugh fan. Limbaugh is a show business geek, laughing all the way to the bank.

But, you, Tom Ridge, are STILL a loser!

As long as I live I will remember as the terrible events on 9-11 unfolded , Shep broadcasted live and ad libbed with great accuracy of what was known and what was not , throughout the day in a “grace under pressure ” manner that would have made Edward R. Murrow very proud .

      • No , Shep is not nuts . He doesn’t even have a car . If he was driving no one was rammed . If he was driving and some one was rammed they probably deserved it . The police investigated and recognized he had done nothing wrong and the charges were dropped by the D.A. It is called good police work and prosecutorial discretion .

  63. Tom Ridge and his kind (Colin Powell the most reluctant warrior it has ever been my displeasure to meet) have been the reason that Republicans have looked like weak sisters for the last 2 elections. I’m a conservative. So he wants to fight? Fine. If Rush, who has never held elected office, (like ridge) and has never sold out (like ridge) and only sways people with the power of his thoughts and words (unlike ridge) doesn’t want to fight a soft weak little Nancy like Ridge, I don’t blame him. Tell Ridge to give me a call. I doubt he would have the onions to face a simple American citizen who is tired of HIS crap. He wouldn’t last 15 seconds against me or any of the other conservatives I know….Including my 65 year old mother or 33 year old wife…maybe not even my 2 year old son)!

  67. LAW OF THE LAND
    Fox’s Shepard Smith goes unpunished
News anchor arrested for hitting woman with car, charges dropped

    Shepard Smith’s mug shot
Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith will go unpunished for what police say was aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.

On Friday, Nov. 17, during the Florida presidential election fiasco, Smith was arrested for allegedly driving his car into another reporter who was standing in a parking space she attempted to save for a friend. The victim, freelance journalist Maureen Walsh of Tallahassee, was hospitalized and released later the same day with bruises on her knees and legs.

According to Sgt. Edwin Maxwell, Walsh was standing across the street from the state capitol when Smith drove up and “shouted some profanities at her and basically just struck her, striking her at the knees, which threw her up on the car,” he told the St. Petersburg Times.

After a few case-management hearings between attorneys and the court, the charges against Smith were dropped, said the Leon County state attorney’s office.

Smith, who used to be a reporter for 20th Century Television’s “A Current Affair,” was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle. The felony charge came with a $10,000 bail price tag, which Smith produced so he could return to work. The story, while reported briefly by local publications and wire reports, quickly fell off the media’s radar.

WorldNetDaily has kept tabs on the case exclusively in its weekly “Backroom” editions, available for free to subscribers of WND’s e-mail alerts.

The super-star television personality also went unpunished by his employer, the Fox News Network. Fox spokeswoman Irena Stefan characterized the case earlier this year as a non-story, saying there is “no news to report here.” She also explained that Smith had not been reprimanded by the network “because no charge has been made.”

On the contrary, Smith was charged with a felony the day of the offense. The charge was later downgraded to a misdemeanor – not an uncommon practice, according to the state attorney’s office – and the anchor pleaded not guilty.

Smith anchors Fox New Channel’s “Fox Report” weeknights at 7 p.m. Eastern.

    • Thank you for that additional information . I now know why the D.A declined to prosecute . Maureen Walsh was discovered to be a professional freelance flopper , someone who fakes auto-pedestrian accidents . Flopping is sadly often the only scam available to uneducated women of subnormal intellect when they are too homely for prostitution .

  70. Ridge is not a republican. He is a stealth semi-leftist. Sound radical? Not so… he is the kind that compromises and gives away the farm. He is also the kind that cannot use reasonable arguments in a debate so he falls back to threats of violence and challenges to totally unrelated contests (boxing in this case which is a red herring). I am a 295lb powerlifter who could swat Tom Ridge like a fly. But what would that prove? It would feel good for sure, but it would not be a free exchange of ideas competing in the court of reason. His comments should disqualify him from membership in the Republican party.

People, it is time we take back that party from the country-club check-pansed money boy globallists like ridge and get on with the American dream.

I am a conservative, but I will not leave the Republican Party. Why? I want to elect conservatives in the primaries so the nation will have conservatives to vote for at election time. If all the conservatives leave the party, then we get nothing of John McCain clones year after year. I just won’t send any money until they have someone I can support.

Rush is not the reason republicans are losing elections. The reasin is that lately all we’ve had to vote for on the national level is democrat lite. Why vote for someone pretencing to be democrat when you can vote for the real thing and know what you are getting?

Sorry, Ridge, but you had your chance — you got the candidate you wanted, who espouses the philosophy you say the Republican party should embrace, and he lost. Lost to a very beatable, radical, anti-American community organizer whose radical associations, extremist record and political views, and very shady past should have put him in Dukakis territory.

You had your chance, you blew it, now get off the stage before we throw you off.

  76. Where would the Republican party be without Rush? Probably several million members short of doing anything effective. Rush is entitiled to his opinion and the reason it maddens some of the old gaurd in the party is that they know Rush is right. We elected the Republicians in 1994 with the help of broadcasters like Rush. The Republicians lost their way and are now angry because someone has called them out on what they do and say.

A perfect example of this was Friday we 8 republicans voted to deminish this country through a CAP & TAX bill that will cost millions of Americans job. This was a shameful act.

I would be willing to bet that not on of those 8 Republicians had read the bill in it entirity before voting yes, They should lose their jobs.

  77. What are you SUDDENLY AFRAID OF that you “throw down the gauntlet“ at Rush, Tom Ridge? Conscience startin’ to bother ya’? Worried your gonna lose your income and benefits? Worried about where you’ll find a real job? Maybe you’re worried CAP ‘N TRADE won’t make it? Maybe your gonna vote on Obama’s Health Plan to ‘let the old die young’ just so you can gain favor with the New World Order? If so, you ain’t got a leg to stand on, Tom. You’re gonna die – sooner or later – just like the rest of us, except for those of us going up when JESUS returns for HIS OWN. You goin’?
RUSH LIMBAUGH is in the arena – hitting the ball out of the park – day, after day, after day – teaching men, and women, to search out truth, and think for themselves. He doesn’t try to control us like you mug-wumps (mug on one side of the fence; wump on the other). Rush “walks his talk,” and consistently demonstrates the tool of “critical thinking” so we can learn to analyze, and do more than “just survive” in this world… a world that you and your cronies, and Obama and his comrades, are sucking the LIFE OUT OF! Who really LOVES AMERICA, and cares about AMERICANS? No Question, Tom… RUSH LIMBAUGH.
Oh, yeah… and one more thing. You said something about “marbles?” YOU wanna talk “marbles,” Tom? OK. I’m a gal, so pardon me while I blush, as I tell ya’ what my Daddy used to say, ’cause if your Daddy had told you, you wouldn’t be wearin’ DEM shoes, today. Daddy said, “It takes a big man to grow hair on his chest, but it takes ONE HELL OF A MAN to keep it worn off.” Better go get yourself a tube of Sunscreen-SPF 64, Tom Ridge. The parade’s passing you by. You lose.
BTW: RUSH ALSO ACCURATELY CALLS “DEM BALLS,” l-o-n-g before YOU ever see DEM pitches. He calls it “talent-on-loan-from-GOD.” Maybe you ought-a not mess with the man, Tom… just a suggestion but – you suit yourself.

If you are successful, by 2012 Obama will be a shoe-in with the Senate having around 70 Democrats. At that time we will do away with DOMA, as well as Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, ensure unions can organize without secret ballots, and universal healthcare is a reality like the rest of the civilized world. Oh yes one more thing, Judge Sotomayor will look like a conservative with subsequent Supreme Court nominations from President Obama.

This goes to prove what kind of loser attitude republicans like Ridge have. The future of our country is on the line. It is past time for real Americans to stand for our values and ideals. What we have now is the turning away from Aerican values. It was more important to elect the first black president that to elect a good president that was the irst preisident who was black. 107. It would be great if we had something that we could use to determine if someone was actually in agreement with what the majority of the party wanted. Maybe we shoudl set up a process where the actual members of the party got together and took note of what the beliefs and positions of the party should be. Not a few fat cats, but the grass roots people in every city. Those ideas could then be be brought up to a county convention in each state, voted on by representative chosen by the people, then again presented and voted on at a state level. Finally, delegates selected from each state could meet at a national level to create a national party platform, stating the beliefs and positions of the membership of the party. Oh, wait… we do that. The Republican party actually has a platform that we can use to determine what the party actually stands for. Now, who do you think agrees with more of that platform… Ridge (who did not secure the border when he was in charge of DHS), or Rush (who defends the planks that Ridge wishes would simply go away).

The reason that Barry O is in the white house right now is that each of us have conservative friends that voted against the RINOS to get them out of power. Obama had only 52% of the vote. 10 of that was these defecting conservatives that want to get the Tom Ridges out of leadership of the GOP. Name me a single time that the leadership of the Republican party was more liberal. Has been that way for just a bit longer than we have been losing elections. Imagine a party with a house leader like Mike Pense, and a Senate led by… thats right, we have no conservative senators now remotely close to being nationally known. In order to win, conservatives need only convince 11% beyond their base if they run as conservatives and fully embrace the conservative platform of the party. Liberals need to convince 30% beyond their base. Explain, Mr. Ridge, why you think that that kind of math is less appealing than the massive losses your RINO buddies have been leading us to since taking control. BTW, threatening physical violence against someone because they do not agree with you is not very statesman like.

  112. Ridge, Answer the question? Colin Powell endorsed the Democrat, Barack Obama, at a strategic point in the campaign in 2008. Colin Powell said Obama would be a better CIC than McCain. Do yo agree Ridge? Answer the question? And then he went out later and said, ‘Americans want more spending, bigger government, and higher taxes,’ before California threw that one in the trash.”

So far Powell is wrong on Obama and bigger government and McCain is still alive and kicking.

Maybe you need to shut up Ridge. What Colin Powell did is unforgiveable. He let race cloud his judgement.

Why have a two party system if both parties look alike.
